The Role
This was the best year of my life. But this was mainly because I was working for IBM rather than just my role- I did enjoy my role and had a fantastic team, but the social aspect of IBM and their volunteering scheme- GiveBack made the year as enjoyable as it was.
My team were fantastic, they made me feel appreciated and gave me a lot of responsibility from day one.
My direct task manager was great, she was efficient and direct. I always knew where I stood with her and she really wanted me to get the most out of my year. My Professional Development Manager was lovely too she was a good point of contact outside of the team and always encouraged me to get involved in GiveBack.
If I had done all the work required of me, I always asked for more- there was never nothing to do.
My role came with a lot of responsibility due to its nature, I saw confidential data and was trusted from day one, with instilled me with the confidence I needed to do my job.
I think this job has helped develop me as a person rather than academically. Honestly, my degree is not in any way related to my role, but I knew that would be the case, I want to work in Business, although I do not do a Business related degree.
The Company
The office was always busy, as we had hot desks you had some familiar faces and some new ones. There was always banter which made you feel more relaxed and the fact that I was one of 50 interns in the office also helped. It is important to note that you can get involved as much as you want to; if you do not like an informal atmosphere and want to keep to yourself you can make it happen.
Excellent.
There are some training events that are mandatory, but mostly you get back what you put in. If there is something you would like to do management will do all they can to ensure that happens and support you 100%.

I have already applied for a different field of work. I am awaiting an Assessment Centre now and cannot think of a better place to work than at IBM.
The Culture
As I mentioned I was one of 50 other interns in South Bank so socialising was always occurring. But we also socialised with the other hundreds of interns at other locations at things like the Foundation Ball. But again you give what you put in, if you aren't interested in socialising it won't happen, if you are you can organise events like I did - I organised the interns Christmas meal.
Not cheap- but hey it's London!
We were a stone's throw away from the best bars in London.
There was always something going on, and if not you always had the opportunity to make one.
