About You
I really enjoyed my time here!
Even though it was difficult to deliver valuable results in such a small time at the firm, I felt like the work that I did contributed to the team.`
Lots! The firm was brilliant at supporting us.
A great amount! My practical experience has benefited my approach to work and will no doubt be invaluable when completing the GDL and LPC.
The Company
Immensely well structured and organised - I always knew what was going on and felt like there was a strong supporting structure behind the week!
Positive and collaborative - it has been the best professional atmosphere I have experienced to date.
A huge amount of time was spent in feeding back on different elements of the scheme - be it individual pieces of work or exercises outside of our departmental team.
It helped me enormously! It made me realise that working here would be incredible!
We had a vast amount of exposure to different people in the firm. This gave of a distinct sense of the firm's attitudes, approaches, and values. "Culture" is sometimes nebulous, difficult to define, and used by firms that don't really know what it means. This is not the case at A&O where the community has distinct values of collaboration and innovation which are at the core of its working approach.
It was personally very helpful in confirming that I wanted a career in international commercial law.
Everything Else
The scheme was paid in line with similar schemes of firms of a similar standing.
Yes! Lots! The firm's best assets are its people and A&O were keen to expose us to as many of them as possible - this included partners, associates, trainees and support staff. We also had a meeting with the firm's Worldwide Senior Partner. How many firms put vacation scheme students in front of their most senior people?!
Enjoyable and well planned. This included ice skating and two evening meals with different people in the firm - one of these was at the top of the Gherkin!
Yes! We had the opportunity to go to the firm's carol concert and were made welcome at a vast array of extra-professional activities including intramural sports, music groups, and the firm's private gym.
Every day! I think it would eventually get tedious for them.
