About You
Highly enjoyable. The length of time (2 days) was just right, and we got to talk to a lot of PwC staff who shared their experiences working with the firm. It was also great to talk to the other girls about their application process with PwC and why they applied to PwC.
As I was switched to the Women in Business Talent Academy after the placement I originally applied for was filled up, I did feel valued as PwC gave me another opportunity to know the firm rather than just forgetting about me.
We were always surrounded with PwC ambassadors, either from HR or the standard lines of service (assurance, tax etc.) They were all really helpful in giving advice on applying to PwC, and telling us about their work life and answering our many questions.
The talent academy was mainly getting to know the firm and a lot on how PwC supports women. This was great to know, but didn't really affect my degree studies.
The Company
Generally well structured, with lots of opportunities for us to talk to PwC ambassadors. However, it would have been better if there were more chances for us to talk amongst ourselves and get to know each other better.
Fun, relaxing, insightful :)
As I wasn't even part of the firm and was only there for a 2-day activity, I felt that PwC did invest quite a lot. PwC is a large firm and can definitely afford a 1-night stay for a group of girls in a hotel, but it was still greatly appreciated by us all especially with inviting the PwC staff to have dinner with us.
Everything I know about a full time role is obviously only through what others have said about their own experiences. While this was really insightful, it is obviously still not the same as having some hands-on experience yourself doing an internship. What the ambassadors do give you a good idea of what working at PwC is like though.
We were told a lot about how great it is to work for PwC (couldn't help wondering if what they said was slightly exaggerated, sounded too good to be true) and the flexibility mechanisms of the firm. It appears that everyone at PwC are really friendly and supportive which does sound appealing.
I decided that I really did want to work for PwC, and what I learnt about Assurance (my chosen line of service) further cemented this decision. The general atmosphere of the talent academy was so friendly, which could really mean good things about PwC as a firm in general.
Everything Else
Was reimbursed for travel expenses.
Definitely. Met plenty of employees from different lines of service which was really interesting. Meeting HR staff was also helpful as they could give tips on the application process and future interviews.
Networking can be tiring as it's a lot of standing around and chatting with virtual strangers, but this was still a great opportunity to learn from other people's experiences and help you figure out your own career path.
I was told about different clubs or such at PwC, but wasn't given a lot of details on this area.
Definitely. Generally very insightful, and quite relaxing as it's only a 2-day activity. You learn a lot about the firm and the different services it offers without the pressure of having to complete a lot of work!
