The Role
The nature of my colleagues created a relaxed but professional environment to work in which really helped to settle any initial nerves and made me look forward to going in to work.
Very much so, I could've easily been given admin tasks to complete for 12 weeks as I'm sure many placement students do, however I felt colleagues actively tried to vary my tasks and keep work interesting.
I was assigned a graduate 'buddy' upon arrival to help me with whatever I needed and this was incredibly useful. As my line manager wasn't always in the office it was great to have a buddy to give support with work and any other issues.
It varied as it does for everyone. There were very busy periods when project deadlines approach and also more relaxed periods but I certainly wasn't sat around bored at any point.
I think I was given about as much responsibility as I possibly could have. Lots of time was spent learning new things and providing support on projects and I felt the balance of the two was spot on. Towards the end of the placement my responsibilities definitely grew and it was nice to feel trusted enough to be briefed and left with important work to complete independently given the length of my time there.
My time at EC Harris has 100% helped give me a greater understanding of how teams work to deliver projects and the role I can play in a graduate role on completion of university. Putting learnt information which previously was hard to relate to real life work in to perspective has massively helped me with my second year of study.
The Company
The atmosphere was generally really pleasant and a good, efficient place to work. The mix of young graduates of experienced professionals helped bring a very sociable feel to the office and I always felt anyone was approachable if necessary.
The time from my interview to start date was really quite short as I was keen for an immediate start and I can't fault the organisation of this. I was promptly emailed by my assigned buddy upon getting a job offer with a tailored induction pack including advice and tips for when I started. My first week of work was then structured with being assigned a laptop and being invited to attend other induction/health and safety activities.
The company invested in a personal laptop, relevant induction training and also allowed the IT department to install relevant new software on to my machine if requested.

Very appealing, I had a lot of fun working there and learnt so much.
The Culture
Yes the social side was great which has lead to me keeping in contact with a few of my colleagues. Weekly 5-a-side football was a lot of fun, even if the results often weren't as positive as we'd of liked, it was a really good way to socialise.
I live at home with family near by so only really had a daily commute to worry about cost wise which was minimal. Birmingham is relatively cheap for the size of the city so socialising there is fine on your pocket.
Great!
Yes plenty, I very much enjoyed my time in the EC Harris football team amongst other social events.
