About You
I found the 3 day talent academy really enjoyable. There was a great atmosphere and was very social.
Although the academy was short, the mentors took an individual interest in everyone, and were always around to answer questions, ask how things were going etc. They were definitely trying to 'sell' PwC as the place we would want to work, which meant that you felt valued.
The 3 days were quite structured with group work, presentations and networking. For the main project, we were expected to work on our own with our groups, but the mentors did come round to check how were getting on. They were also very useful in discussing what would happen after the insight with interviews for the internships.
I felt the academy was useful in developing the soft skills needed to work at PwC (team work, presenting a business plan, networking) as well as giving an insight into the actual work done at the company.
The Company
We had a full timetable of the workshops and events for the whole 3 days, including a dinner for networking with partners.
The atmosphere was great- everyone seemed to get on really well, and although there was a bit of a competitive spirit, it never got too intense.
The entire course was designed to teach both the soft and hard skills needed to work at PwC, including presentations, team work and business acuity.
There were several opportunities to talk with current employees, but it was still hard to get a proper sense of what the work is like day to day, or what the office environment was like.
There was a presentation on the benefits for working for PwC and they really advertised what the culture was like, but since it didn't take place in an office and we were mainly in contact with the recruitment team it was hard to judge if the company culture would be exactly like advertised.
I found the experience extremely useful in solidifying my plans for a career in consulting, plus it helped me to land a summer internship in their London office.
Everything Else
Although the course wasn't paid, all transport was reimbursed, and our rooms and food were included, so absolutely no money was needed.
There were two networking evenings, one with general employees of all levels and one with partners. Both were very useful but it due to the ratio of students to employees it was hard to have a meaningful chat with any of the people in the more popular service lines (such as consulting or assurance).
The networking evening were great (apart from the issue with the popular employees mentioned above) and it was very easy to network with other students on the academy.
There was a presentation about the 'outside' side of PwC, including their sport teams, charity events and travel opportunities.
Yes, the academy was not only useful and informative, but also really fun and everyone was extremely sociable and friendly.
