About You
I enjoyed meeting people at different stages of their career and being able to see the many aspects covered by the one branch of PwC. As I was only there for a week, it was sometimes hard to get involved as I did not have time to learn much so therefore couldn't complete tasks on my own and the people I was working with had work to do. However, this was only a couple of times throughout the week and everyone in the office did their upmost to help me and keep me busy.
I felt like the team were happy to have me and to help me make the most of the week. They understood the position I was in and due to varying ages, from first years at PwC through to a director they could all give me a different insight. As it was only a week, there wasn't too much I could do. However, when I went out to clients for the day, I was given tasks to complete that would help them.
I received a lot of guidance from many different people both willing to advise me about joining the company but also about the career path. They were not pushing me to join PwC at all, but telling me how they felt, which was all good things! As I travelled away from home for this placement, I was very lucky to have someone nearly every evening willing to take me around and show me the city or take me to events.
The information has not changed my studies as I now know I can be accepted with a degree that is not necessarily related to the work I will be undertaking. I understand more now about what would be expected from me if I went to the company.
The Company
I believe the insight would vary a lot from week to week depending on what was happening and who was free. For me, my director was more than willing to have me involved in everything she could, however at times I was left with some work they had planned for me. I was helped with this by a first year who I was sat with. I found out most evenings what I would be doing the following day and where to be, as I was flexible and willing to try everything this was not a problem, more of an adventure!
The people I was working with made the week what it was for me. They are what made me think I could do the career as they were so helpful. Everyone around the office was willing to take a few minutes to talk to me or help me out. It was a lovely place to be.
I was only there for a week so there was not much time, there was more time spent showing me as much as possible.
A great amount as I met so many people and worked full time hours shadowing a different person nearly every day. I think going again for longer with actual work to do would show you more realistically what it was like at the beginning however this was a great taster to show you what the years ahead could hold.
The insight showed me how everyone there worked together and looked out for each other in this office. It also showed me where their were gaps or problems but this was because people were willing to share their truthful opinions which are more useful in the long run! I would be happy in the culture I saw.
Being able to spend time with real people rather than listening or reading was great, it showed you what it was really like.
Everything Else
I was paid for the time I was there.
Yes, I was free to meet many people and encouraged to spend time with them by being sent with a different team most days.
As I was the only person on a placement that week there were not many social opportunities. However, there was a different PwC scheme running and I was invited to the dinner along with my director. Other people took me out in the evenings to explore.
A little through speaking to people there.
Yes, anyone who is interested in this career but a little unsure, a week is a great opportunity that is hard to find. However, it is definitely more of a quick stop tour rather than getting hands on, which was what I wanted. It showed me where I could aim to be in years to come and the progress possible through the company.
