The Role
I'm 6 months into a 12 month placement and i'm loving it.
Highly valued. I have a lot of freedom to get on with my job the way I see fit, but I have responsibilites and deadlines to meet. I have colleagues relying on me to produce work.
Massively. All managers and supervisors are highly experienced Engineers who are passionate, enthusiastic and always happy to help
Like any job, some days can be quiet. But most of the time i'm very busy- exactly as I hoped
Lots. I have been given responsibilty for investigation tasks, prototype builds, tests and supporting a couple of new starters who joined a couple of months after me. Responsibilty has increased as my skills and understanding have progressed.
Hugely. I've learnt so much from an engineering/ design point of view, but i've also had a huge insight into the product development process in industry. I've learnt a lot about the importance of communication and the support that colleagues can provide. I will be very driven and very focused in my final year project and well prepared to start my first job after. I intend to return to Dyson as a graduate
The Company
Lively, energetic, exciting. Lots going on. The office is huge and open plan, promoting socialising and discussions
Pretty good on the whole. We're the first placement year that Dyson have taken, so i'm essentially one of the 'guinea pigs'. This first year will be a learning experience for both myself (and the other interns here) and all the other emplyees involved with us. I have no doubts that organisation will only improve year on year, because nearly everyone here is young and keen to progress
Massively! I've had so many opportunities. The first 2 weeks was full of induction training. I've had CAD training, various workshop skills sessions, external Mill and Lathe Training, and absolutely tonnes of other opportunities. There's a lot of training sessions and courses that we have access to. So it's entirely up to the individual. But as I'm only here for a year I'm signing up to anything that sounds interesting
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Very appealing! Dyson is on the verge of a big expansion, so this will only increase opportunities. We're also getting a load of new recreational/ sports stuff soon which is very exciting
The Culture
Yeah, everyone gets along. It's great fun
Very good, but that's largely because i'm living with my parents for the year... Petrol money is my greatest living expense, commuting from Bristol. But it's worth the expense for the nightlife
Nightlife is dead around Malmesbury. But I live in Bristol (where a lot of other Dyson emplyees also commute from). The Nightlife in Bristol is awesome.
Tonnes. There are lots of clubs/ sports teams/ groups. I'm involved in a mountain biking group which is awesome
