The Role
It gave me the insight that I wanted into the business world and all things that happen behind the scenes of the big businesses.
All the colleagues were helpful and actively tried to engage with me regarding different projects and they made an effort to make me feel welcome in the business!
My manager was always on the other end of the phone as well as my work colleagues, and there was weekly meetings with my manager to go through my workload and progress with various areas.
I was busy a lot of the time with various projects ticking over, however there were times when I didn't have much to do but these were times when I was waiting for responses or it was just before the rush.
I was given responsibility to manage projects of my own that would have a large impact on the business, i managed a large intern project as well as my day to day role where i was involved in leading projects that would have a large effect on the business.
In my degree, given that the placement is not aligned to it i don't see the nuts and bolts of what i've learned to be too applicable (Business placement and law degree), however the broad skills of people and project management along with various organisational requirements and the work ethic have definitely given me skills for life. As well as tools with office and the general processes of a business are things that set me apart from other people on my course.
The Company
The atmosphere was relaxed and professional, whilst also allowing for fun. Whilst it wasn't a non-stop party, there were good times and the atmosphere really added to the feeling relaxed even when work was piling up.
There were very few issues regarding the overall work placement, the only issues that arose were due to factors that were out of anybodies control.
The company gave me good opportunities to learn, and my manager took on board everything that I was looking to achieve and gave me opportunities around those each time I asked.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
The company is international and there are always opportunities within the business. The company also encourages staff to look into their career and to keep up to date with job opportunities and keeping their CV up to date with an online portal giving them everything they need to know.
The Culture
There was quite a strong social element with the interns & graduates however it's not a constant party, there were events around xmas as well as networking events around the country and within the office.
The cost of living was variable depending on where you look, there are great travel connections so there is flexibility on where you want to live if you don't mind the commute! With a free shuttle coach frequently to and from the train station to the office.
Giving that i'm not the greatest fan of the typical student nightlife I wouldn't be in a position to answer.
There were opportunities to get involved with different sports or events which took place at different offices or affiliate companies. And if what you're looking for isn't there, then it's the type of workplace that will encourage you to take the reins and make it happen.
