The Role
The internship was fantastic: great team to work with; interesting work; good amount of responsiblity but also enough support.
All members of the team, no matter how senior were happy to spare time to help me with my project. Team were also good at giving feedback on how I could improve.
Good level of support, including by more senior members of team who are extremely busy.
Always busy but felt like a smaller workload compared to a finals term at university!
Given a good level of responsiblity; enough to put my own stamp on the project, but not so much that I didn't know what direction to develop the project in.
Developed some really important skills - most importantly that of understanding how to adapt to an office environment after university life. I think many students don't appreciate how different the working world is after university work.
The Company
Team was fun to work with and always had something to keep me busy.
Notification of location of placement was pretty late; this, in the event was not a problem as it was close to my university/home location. Had it been further away, however, it might have been slightly problematic.
Interns get excellent exposure to the business, that you simply wouldn't get if you came in on a one-off hire. Presentation event a great opportunity to develop presentation skills in front of a reasonable sized audience.
Subsidised/Company Gym
I have been offered a job with the organisation.
The Culture
Fortunate in that I was placed where the majority of interns were, so am unable to comment on other locations where fewer interns were placed. At main site, ample opportunities for socialising and a really good group of interns!
Accommodation was provided by the employer - a big bonus! Cost of socialising was comparable to university.
About the same as university, which wasn't a major party-town, but fine!
Lots of opportunities to socialise with fellow interns and get involved with local clubs e.g. football.
