The Role
There are time when I have been unsure of what I have been doing, which can be stressful, but that is part of the learning curve. Overall it has been challenging and rewarding so far - which I what I had hoped it would be.
Everyone came and introduced themselves to me on my first day, and was always invited down to lunch with the team.
I have weekly one to ones with my line manager, where I am able to express any concerns I have, or ask for help on matters.
I have always had something to do. Some days are busier than others, but I have never been idle or overworked.
I have been asked to write a report from start to finish on my own - I happy to say that this has given me a lot of challenging work and responsibility.
The training and the experience will surely help me when I apply for a graduate job.
The Company
My department is quite introverted; people like to keep to themselves. As it is an open plan office, and i am unable to work in too much noise, I prefer it this way.
When I arrived I was given introductory material and then began working on a project. The beginning of the project was timed well with my arrival, and I have been talked through the entire thing.
I was provided a training before staring the work.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Although there is not a job that can follow directly from this internship, I am able to apply for the graduate scheme again this year; having the internship on my CV should certainly improve my chances.
The Culture
The entire department does have lunch together everyday, which was nice. Unfortunately there are never any after work drinks or socials organised.
Being in central London, everything was extremely expensive. Being on an intern's salary, not everything is affordable for me.
There are a few good bars around. A short tube journey offers many more possibilities of things to do.
There are regular networking events, gym classes and community affairs work which is available for everyone to get involved in.
