The Role
Although the work is challenging, the internship itself was far more enjoyable than I thought it would be. It is a very sociable firm.
I felt very integrated within the team from the beginning. Everyone's sociable.
There was always someone to approach for any number of different issues. We were all assigned a "buddy", a people manager, as well as having the others members of the team.
It was clear we were expected to work hard and learn as much as possible each day.
I was put in charge of many sections of the audit, having sole responsibility for their completion.
Networking and organisation skills will not only help at uni but in my career too. Not to mention the technical skills learnt on the job, these will be invaluable as I'm returning to PwC next year.
The Company
Everyone works hard, but the atmosphere was friendly.
I always knew when and where I had to be, whether at the client working or with other interns for training days. We were assigned jobs well in advance.
Self-appraisals were deemed very important, along with feedback and regular meetings with my people manager to see how I was getting on. Special purpose training days were held as well as the pre-internship training.
Company Parties/Events
Im going back in 2012 after 9 months off.
The Culture
After work drinks and meals with other interns were common. We were also assigned into social groups in order to socialise with more senior colleagues.
I lived at home, but travel into London and lunch everyday was almost a quarter of my daily salary.
n/a - working hard meant the Nightlife was reserved for the weekends when I was at home.
We had the opportunity to play football after work, but the joining of teams etc. was limited as we were only there for 6 weeks.
