    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was really a great experience. I discovered a lot about working in such a large company as well as enhancing all my skills from programming to communication.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All colleagues in which I met were very welcoming and helpful. If i needed help all I had to do was ask and someone was always willing to explain anything to me. I also felt valued as the software in which I developed was being used by my team before I was leaving.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had my manager who was always there and whenever I needed anything he would always be there to help. I also had a mentor who was there if I needed any technical help, which was great! And I was assigned an executive director who met with me twice in my internship to discuss how I was getting on and was there if I had any unanswered questions.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • With the exception of the last week due to finishing up and not starting anything new, I was busy to a standard I liked. The time went fast each day which showed I was progressing well and enjoying what I was doing.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a toolkit to create which I believe was good as I was trusted to design and development something other employees in the company would use. As well as this I got an insight into a few other tasks in which I was not actually doing, and was allowed to follow out some of those tasks.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It really was great, definitely university does not prepare you for a fast working environment. All the people and office skills I have learnt will be used when I start working and the technical skills will all help at university as well as the organisation of my project this year will be helped due to the project on my internship.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Busy but easy going, friendly and at times loud with people on the phone. It was a very mixed environment which I like as I got a full insight into different types of office life. I also enjoyed the communications I had with other members of the team abroad and having phones calls, and group meetings each day.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised. In general the company had different activities for the interns to bond and get to know one another inside and outside work. We had presentations and talks most days in the first few weeks to give us a good insight into the different parts of the company and the important people to know and recognise. My manager was organised in the task I was doing and it was all ready and planned for me coming in.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I completed many small tests over my time to enhance my knowledge of the rules and regulations of the company but also some tests on the department I was in, in order for me to understand more of how things worked.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Yes I would definitely be happy to go back to work for the company and that is why I am.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, I made friends with lots of different interns and we would got for lunch, drinks and things at night after work. It was good to spend time and chat about things with other interns as they were on the same programme as me.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I stayed at home and paid for travel on the trains, so the usual cost for me when travelling to university. Socialising was the same as usual, as I was in the same city I would normally come to to socialise.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good, restaurants, bars and clubs, just the same as all cities.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a football team which for me was no use being a girl, however there were intern events throughout the time which were good to go to.
