The Role
It was extremely interesting to be able to apply the knowledge I had gained from my university studies to real life problems.
I was not working with many people of my own age group therefore there was not as much of a social aspect as I expected within the office. There were however regular sports meetings at lunch times where I had the opportunity to make new friends.
The help was always there if I needed it. All I had to do was ask.
There was always something to during my placement. If it felt like there wasn't anything to do it was easy enough to find something.
I was in charge of my own project which I was solely responsible for delivering its goals. I even got to see the formulations I had been working on scaled-up to a pilot plant level from a lab-scale.
I received a valuable insight into how chemical engineering and research and development function in industry. I also gained a much greater understanding of things which I had learned at university.
The Company
Easy, relaxed, fun atmosphere. Even heated debates were diplomatic and calm.
Very well, I had lots of training when I first started, with hand over notes and constant support throughout the year
I had frequent training opportunities, where I got to have time out of the office and go see our agencies and how they operated. I also had personal development training which gave me better working skills
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I would happily return for full employment if I had the opportunity to select a preferable role.
The Culture
There are lots of apprentices on site who are a similar age to myself. However where we were based (Bedford) offered very little to do. So it was often just drinks.
With the salary it is possible to have a good social life, I haven't saved any money... but have a lot of great memories!
The bars were always buzzing on a friday night, as everyone from other banks/companies came out to start the weekend with a drink.
There were often team nights where we got to try new things.
