The Role
I found my placement experience to be enjoyable for a number of reasons. Intel has a very open working environment that allows you to feel very welcome and valued whilst in a team. The people in my team are very easy to get along with and make turning up to work an enjoyable experience. Furthermore, because Intel hires around 60 interns a year there are plenty of like minded students around the place. The intern community is fantastic and could be compared to being at university but with extra money in your pocket. We have had countless nights out and many different events to suit all.
I'm currently on a World Wide project and feel as if I'm a valued team member. Members of my team often ask for my feedback and our happy for me to work on the project with little 'hand holding'.
Support from my manager and 'buddy' have been fantastic. Always around to ask questions and always very approachable. Managers can often be the reason for people leaving companies. At Intel and in my team, they are the reason I would like to come back and work for them again.
Work levels can vary. At the start of your internship for the first 6 months you are expected to be 'ramping up' and will not have a huge amount of workload. After Christmas this workload then increases. The work life balance is good and I can only think a few instances where I have had to stay past 5:30. If you find yourself quiet you can always approach your project manager or direct manager and they will almost certainly be able to give you more work. It's like any job, some days are busier than others, but there is never an impossible amount to get done that can cause stress.
Intern roles are 'non critical' meaning once you leave you are not the only person that knows how to do it. Therefore you have responsibility to a certain extent but your not 'running the show'. In my role I am responsible for overseeing and the development of a tool. I create user and test stories that enable are developers to deliver what the end customer requires. I am the only person doing this in my team therefore this is quite a large responsibility, however I can hand this over to a new intern or previous member of my team when I leave.
Unlike university, the projects you will take on at Intel will have a real impact and not just be something that sits in a tutors cupboard for eternity. With this in mind, a placement at Intel allows you to extend and build on the skills you have been learning at university. Training is available in the form of online training or instructor led training. I personally believe the area in which I have shown great development would be in my presentation skills. This was encouraged by management as they recognized it as an area I was keen to improve in.
The Company
The environment is open, honest and very friendly, with any person at any level in the organisation willing to spend time with you.
I think it was well set up with training organised throughout the year for the appropriate and relevant areas to the job.
There was a lot of training provided within the first few weeks as well as a 4 week handover with the previous intern.

Company Parties/Events
Only recently started to hire back. Aiming to hire back 50% of IT BA'S. Unsure when decisions or offers will be handed out but I would love to come back.
The Culture
The intern community has regular events going on from nights out, charity events and even weekend trips away!
Rent is generally around £325. Thursday nights are student nights.
There are only a few night clubs in the area but there are a number of good bars and restaurants to keep everyone entertained.
Lots to get involved in. Every quarter you have a team event. Lots of volunteering activities. Also opportunities like karting.
