The Role
My work placement was a significant milestone in my career. It gave me an opportunity to get direct access to the industry i had desired to work in, as well as amazingly given me the opportunity to live abroad. Fantastic combination
Very valued. In no way did i feel like 'just' an intern. I was given full responsibility of day to day task as well as the opportunity to liaise with internal as well as external stakeholders during an audit. i felt like i had a sense of ownership which was fantastic and great for my development.
I felt at all times supported. From being trainined to do my role, to providing support when i had queries or was unsure of what to do. My manager even opened up their network for me to be exposed to other areas of the bank for my development.
Busy, however the work was managable. This was great because i had an opportunity to get an insight into the reality of banking, however at the same time, i had sufficient capacity to also network, attend industry events etc
I would say that i was given responsibility similar to that of a graduate. Therefore i had overnership of some tasks, however i also supported my team in other duties.
The training and exposure i received is highly sought after and unquestionablly had led to open doors.
The Company
Generally speaking, the atmosphere in the office was friendly, yet hardworking. We achieved our objectives and got along very well
it was extremely well organised. i felt as though i had guidance from my application to actually ariving in NY, getting the offer, to sorting out my visa, to being picked to be taken to my office on the first day of my internship, to being shown how to get around NY etc. Extremely well organised....no doubt about that!!! at no point did i feel lost or unsure of what i was doing.
I was not just allowed, but encouraged to attend courses, as well as shadow other members of staff in different areas of the bank.
Subsidised Canteen

very appealing. i know alot of individuals who did internsips within the bank and were offerred further opportunities- which was fantastic
The Culture
Great social scene- everyone tended to gather together to attend events as no one was technically speaking from NY.
The costs were adequate
Lots of options for different types of pple
