About You
It was very educational and exceeded my expectations. I got to know a lot about the different divisions within the bank that I didn't know existed which gave me a better insight. It was a lot to process in one week, but it gave a good first impression of the banking world and it's requirements and expectations.
Everyone from the firm was very welcoming and friendly. Moreover, everyone was more than happy to answer questions and never reacted in a way which made me question that my question was "stupid".
I felt that guidance and support was always there if I needed it. However, after a presentation it would have been beneficial if the bank representatives could stay during the break to answer some questions. Sometimes the representatives stayed but a few times they disappeared quite quickly.
I don't know how much the information benefited my degree but it definitely benefited me in my everyday life. Learning something new is always positive.
The Company
It was very well structured. However, we usually went over-time on presentations or lectures. This sometimes led to us having smaller or almost no breaks which might have been necessary for our brains to be fresh and ready to absorb more information effectively for the next session.
The general atmosphere welcoming, energetic and enthusiastic.
A great extent and I am extremely grateful to be given this opportunity. We got the chance to talk to bank representatives, see Barclays offices around Canary Wharf as well as tackling case cracking cases which I don't believe I would have the chance to do otherwise - at least not on the same level.
I don't believe that 1 week could result in getting a clear image of a full time role but it definitely gave me a good first insight and a general understanding. I believe that the spring internship is the first step in you realising if the banking world might be for you and if it is, then you can continue with the summer internship to provide you with an even better understanding.
Everyone really stressed on the Values, which I first thought wasn't taken too seriously. However, everyone seemed extremely passionate about them which made me analyse and appreciate them more. What is more important is that everyone within Barclays seem to follow these values and thereby I saw this as the banks culture, as well as everyone being extremely friendly.
It definitely gave me a better insight but I am still unsure about which career path I want to go down. However, I have realised that I enjoy learning about the finance world and am eager to learn more to try see if it really is a pth I would like to continue down.
Everything Else
I have saved all my receipts and have been told that I will get reimbursed, but that hasn't happened yet.
Yes, to a greta extent and I believe that these moments were the best during the program. The time when I learnt the most, as well as finding it most interesting, was when we were put in smaller groups with one or two bank representatives.
Very good. However, I would like to have had more interactive activities during the "Banking" day.
Not to a great extent.
Definitely!
