About You
Very enjoyable. An intense 5 days packed with a great variety of presentations, activities and case studies as well as a great chance to do two sets of work shadowing.
Very valued. It was impressed upon us that we were valued, having been selected onto such a competitive programme. We were given a range of great opportunities from all levels of staff who spent a lot of time and carefully prepared session to help us. There was also some very helpful feedback given in the PBC (the wealth, corporate, personal, retail and barclaycard) case studies.
Good amount of guidance and support. Not overly so with our presentation but its meant to be an independent project and any questions could easily be asked if needed.
Personally not so helpful for my degree as it is not even vaguely finance related but it will be very helpful in improving my general skills set such as the ability to work in teams and definitely with my presentation skills.
The Company
Very well structured. We received an in depth plan of our week on the first day which covered the majority of the investment bank with each day assigned to a different area of: markets, banking and PBC section of the bank.
Very welcoming atmosphere. Everyone I met was friendly and helpful in the Barclays HR team as well as all the very kind employees who came to tall to us at networking and presentations. Furthermore, our intern class was very friendly and not the stereotypical domineering characters associated with investment banking. Just shows what a good job the HR team do at selecting candidates.
Interactive sessions helped to develop presentation, teamwork and basic financial knowledge but more in-depth training would be possible on a longer programme such as the summer internship.
Only two short work shadowing opportunities so not overly but gave a good insight.
Very good as met a lot of employees through speed networking, interview and networking evening events.
First programme I've been on that made me think about what career path I really want to pursue.
Everything Else
Yes. Overall reimbursed for travel and other expenses for the week.
Many different opportunities on a group and personal scale.
Lots of networking with employees and others students. Not any other social events organised though but you could if you wanted to externally.
Investment banking by nature is very time consuming so not really. Did ask a few employees how their work/life balance was and this depended on whether they were in markets (more free time) or banking (much less free time).
Certainly.
