The Role
Loved my placement - I felt comfortable in my department straight away. Everyone made a supreme effort to give me work that was varied and interesting and also encouraged me to join in with all the department social events and meetings.
Very. By the end of the placement, I wasn't just knocking on office doors asking for work but people were coming to my office to get me to do some work or follow up on some previous work I'd done. And it wasn't just limited to the pleantries in the office - passing an associate outside the office, he stopped to chat to me.
Mid-way through my placement, I met with HR over coffee just so they could check that I was getting what I wanted out of my placement and that I'd been exposed to all the aspects of work. My department supervisor also took me out for an informal lunch mid-placement to chat about progress so far.
Enough to keep me busy and staying a little late on some days but never so much that I was stressed about finishing any tasks.
Many of my tasks were part of much larger projects, but smaller, fairly routine matters such as incorporating a company I was left to sort out myself using existing precedents (although my supervisor always checked my work).
I am currently studying the legal practice course. The work I did in the Corporate Department does help put into context the areas I'm currently studying in business law.
The Company
It was a very jovial department and even when busy, people were light-hearted and friendly.
The timetable was set from the start, and involved breakfast talks, lunches, training sessions and social events. Interspersed throughout the placement was a group project which the recruitment team had obviously spent a lot of time and effort developing.
Considering the placement was three weeks, there was a huge investment. The first two days were spent training (learning how to use the I.T systems etc) and a lot of partners and associates gave up their time to talk to us (formally or informally) or join us for evening social events.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I have accepted a training contract with the firm.
The Culture
There was always some movement in the evening to go for a drink or coffee and we also met up on the weekends.
It's London!
I often joined my department for drinks after work or a meal. You could also play in the firms sports teams.
