    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed it very much, the work was interesting and my fellow interns were fun. It helped that we lived in the same area as well. I also enjoyed the networking opportunities presented to us.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were pleasant and extremely helpful, it was my favourite thing about my experience here.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given excellent support, my queries were always answered and I was generally given enough direction without being spoonfed.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied, I was busy for most of the internship, especially for the first month, but things began to tail off towards the end. A decent balance, but some days were admittedly dull.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was put in charge of my own project alongside other responsibilities, so I alone was in charge of meeting the deadline. The project was key to several other teams across the department, so it was a large amount of responsibility.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Immensely, I learned new programming languages from scratch which assisted me greatly in my final thesis. Also the general communication skills I picked up have greatly reduced my fear of working in a new environment or with new people.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was your general office atmosphere, although relatively laid-back. People were friendly and open to having a quick chat if they weren't busy. The London office atmosphere was a bit less friendly though.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was alright, some hiccups in the first few days regarding login credentials and work station set up. The lack of a permanent desk may have been an issue for some but I felt it was okay.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot of time in regards to networking opportunities, and allowed us to travel to the London offices for a day. There wasn't that much else besides that, although there was available training courses that could be requested.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Quite appealing, I received an offer and will hope to join them on the graduate scheme.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, we all happened to live in the same student housing so there we became a fairly close knit group. Nights out were frequent and convenient to organise as well, and I met some good friends here.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in Bournemouth, in a student let for the summer. The company subsidised our rent so that was fine. There were many places to eat around the area I lived, which was fairly close to the beach and the shopping areas. They were cheap as well.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's not London, but it seemed like a fairly decent scene. There are many bars and restaurants around, some of them beachfront. The clubs are alright, most interns just ended up at one particular club most nights.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there are many sport and other related activities outside of work. There was the CSR day where we went to a park for some volunteer work, which was a nice day off.
