The Role
Interesting topic given as my project, lots of opportunities to go to seminars, flexible working hours and a friendly atmosphere within the Bank made my time here very enjoyable.
Colleagues took an interest in the work I was doing and were happy to help chase up data from around the bank and discuss ideas. Notes, e-mails and reports that colleagues thought I may be interested in (and help with my project) were passed on to me.
The person I was reporting to arranged at least one meeting a week to review my work or just discuss progress was on a task, gave a very clear and detailed list of analytical tasks I was to complete during the internship and was always happy to take any questions during the day.
First couple of weeks was mainly just reading notes and published material while waiting for access to data (which I have been told is being fixed for next summer). After that there was a manageable stream of analytical tasks that did not require me to work beyond my contracted hours.
Treated like everyone else on my team who is not a manager, ie given analytical taks to complete and responsible for completing them it in a timely manner with a lot of freedom in how I wanted to do the analysis.
As a non-economist, most skills I developed will not help with my degree but they are necessary skills, that are not developed in my degree studies, for any future career.
The Company
Always had Krispy Kremes to celebrate the good occasions, everyone enjoyed a good chat and knew when to gert their heads down and work. Great mix.
Best experience in terms of logisitics, my manager had a seat, laptop and intro meetings set up for me. I was also given time to attend training courses and develop my own skills so I could get what I wanted out of the internship. Holidays and paydays were made clear to me from the start and I was given a reasonable amount of work on my first day.
Training courses were available to interns as well seminars that any bank employee could attend. However most seminars were aimed at economists.

Company Parties/Events
I have had all the different options available to me made clear and I have been offered advice on the best steps for me and my situation.
The Culture
All the interns were sociable and all my work peers were inviting me to football, drinks, meals and rock climbing. I was never bored outside of work and have made some good friends because of it.
London has been expensive and the pay has been OK. I haven't struggled to go out but I have not made any money from this, it has given me experience and not financial gain.
Drinks and parties every night. London nightlife is awesome.
Diverse people in the Bank have given me the chance to try activities I normally avoid or things I have never heard of. As long as I asked, I was always pointed in the right direction and found good interesting people.
