About You
The open day was very enjoyable for a number of reasons. The atmosphere was open and friendly yet professional which made the participants comfortable. The activities were highly interactive and varied which made the insight fun and engaging.
It was an open day so there was no real scope to feel valued as it was more about finding out about the firm. However, it must be noted that members of the graduate recruitment team and trainees were very attentive, outgoing and willing to answer questions. We also received feedback after each task so there was a sense that they cared.
We received continual guidance from a range of trainees throughout the day in every task. Staff were highly attentive and even asked if we needed help without being prompted.
The open day gave key information about not only the firm but also other key skills in commercial law such as negotiation, due diligence and naturally commercial awareness. There were also key legal terms such as 'indemnity' which I had previously not come across being a non-law student. So the open day allowed us to develop our legal understanding but more importantly develop the soft skills required in commercial law.
The Company
The Baker & McKenzie open day was structured better than any other open day I have attended. There was a general overview of the firm, a negotiation workshop, a commercial awareness and due diligence workshop as well an exercise in analysing how the firm is affected by latest developments.
The general atmosphere was very friendly and open yet professional. The trainees readily made themselves available for help while the graduate recruitment team welcomed us.
By carrying out various skills sessions and deploying a number of trainees it was clear that the firm invested in us and were willing to help us in our development.
Networking with a variety of trainees in a speed networking session was very helpful in understanding what life is like at Baker & McKenzie. Also taking an office tour as well as talking to trainees throughout the day allowed us to gain a broader picture of what life is like for trainees.
The overview presentation at the beginning as well as the general demeanour of the trainees and staff helped us to understand the open and friendly culture at Bakers.
The content was very valuable and insightful as I gained an understanding of the day-to-day activities of a trainee as well as the kinds of skills that are needed such as the need for Project Management skills in Corporate practice.

Reimbursed expenses
During lunch, during the first trainee networking session as well as throughout various tasks it was easy to network with and meet other employees.
There was the chance to talk to a variety of trainees throughout the day (at lunch, during the office tour and during skills sessions) so clearly the networking opportunities was very good.
There was a dedicated section of the initial trainee networking session in which a trainee explained to us the activities, charities and pro-bono work that the firm was involved with outside work.
100%. The Baker & McKenzie open day was the most varied, interesting and demanding (in a good way) open day I attended and I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
