About You
Thoroughly enjoyed the open day at Baker & Mckenzie, especially in comparison to the other open day's I have attended this year.
In my view, there was far too large a number of candidates invited to feel valued to a high degree but at the same time I did not feel overlooked at any point.
The current Baker & McKenzie trainees offered massive support during the day and were available throughout for guidance which was useful.
The negotiation task was particularly useless and moving forward I feel I can most definitely use the skills the task encouraged me to be mindful of. During the introduction, David Allen mentioned that the Indian Bar prohibit foreign firms from practicing in the country which was very useful to know.
The Company
In my view the open day was very well structured although I do feel more time could have been given to 'application skills' as I felt the session was somewhat rushed.
The atmosphere during the open day was very relaxed. This made it easy to ask questions whenever the need arose. The current trainees who assisted throughout the day were very friendly and approachable.
Once again, with the number of people invited it was difficult to feel a sense of investment.
A single day is not sufficient to get a total sense of how working full time in the firm would be like. Having said that, the tour of the office was helpful in understanding day to day life. Speaking to current trainees proved beneficial also.
One thing that struck me was how approachable everyone at the firm was, from trainees to partner, which is obviously a massive part of the firm's culture. The introduction by David Allen also served to get a sense of the strategy at Baker & McKenzie going into the future.
Massively valuable. Speaking to the partners, listening to David Allen introduce the firm and the exercises during the day has made the decision to apply to Baker & McKenzie very easy.
Everything Else
I did not incur any expenses.
Yes, during lunch.
Lunch provided the perfect opportunity to network although I feel it went by rather quickly.
Yes, through one of the trainees I came to learn of the netball team.
If they were interested in a career with the firm, most definitely.
