About You
I couldn't have asked for a better experience with Citi. The programme was planned out perfectly. Beforehand I was concerned that we only had 3 days at the insight programme but in the end that was all we needed as I had a good grasp of every divisions within the bank. For me it was an excellent experience as people were honest with you about the pros and cons within their division. It was clear for me where I fitted in and that will make things a lot easier when applying for Summer internships.
I felt extremely valued during my time at Citi. The Graduate Recruitment team knew almost everyone's name and always made sure everyone felt like they were getting the best from the few days. Also when on my work shadowing I was introduced to all the team and kept really interested. I definitely could not fault Citi in terms of making everyone feel like they were valued and that they really wanted us to work for the firm.
There was 2 conference calls before we ever arrived at Citi to make sure we knew all the details of the week and to answer any questions or worries we had. On top of that we were in contact with the recruitment team by email. During the insight the team were always on hand to answer any questions we had. Also any requests that I had, for example about changing work shadowing division, were dealt with very quickly.
The information that I learnt at Citi was very focused on the company and less so about learning about finance in general. There were people there from varying degrees so I think it was difficult to give any advanced finance related knowledge to assist with degree studies. We did do various games such as a M&A simulation which will definitely help me in my future career as it gave me a real insight into how the negotiations work on these and the different parties involved.
The Company
The insight was extremely well structured and the 3 days were packed with activities and information sessions. We really got a feel for every division we could go into on a graduate programme. There was a good mixture between work shadowing, insight sessions and simulation games.
The atmosphere was one of my highlights of the programme. The other girls were so friendly and open. We all got on really well and spent our lunch times chatting amongst ourselves. The graduate recruitment team created a relaxed atmosphere where we were able to chat openly with them. The conversations had with people within the bank were informal and we were made to feel very welcome. While the atmosphere became competitive during the games and presentations, overall it was a very enjoyable experience.
I think Citi invested in us quite heavily. They prepped us a lot before arriving and we were really made feel like they were preparing us for working at the bank.
For every division it was explained to us what the summer internship and graduate programme entailed and the exact training we would receive. We also got to speak with people who were in full time roles at the company to hear about their daily work and how they handle their work life balance.
I feel like I really know about the culture after the insight. Citi appeared to be a very international place to work and a lot of emphasis was placed on their global capacity. I think the best way to grasp a company's culture is by meeting as many people as possible from there and the insight was a great opportunity to do this.
It was definitely very helpful. Firstly we got to see every division, not just the main ones. Secondly, we got to work shadow our preferred division and really see first hand if it was for us. I arrived at the insight being sure that I would like to be an investment banker and left wanting to go into the markets division so I think that shows how valuable the content was in helping us choose the path for our future careers.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed expenses. I flew from abroad and these flights were paid for by Citi's travel company in advance which was great.
Yes there were many different opportunities to network and meet with employees of the company.
There were many opportunities for meeting employees. On the first evening there was a networking event with professionals from all the different divisions where we got to speak to everyone. On the second night there was a quiz where 2 employees sat at each table. This was great as it was informal and we all really go to know each other.
Yes. I spoke to some employees who went on the ski trip and we also saw the on site gym available to them.
I would definitely recommend this insight. It was jam packed and also gave me a great idea of what I would like to do in the future and whether I would like to work at Citi.
