About You
I found it very enjoyable - there was a strong range of activities and we were kept engaged throughout the couple of days. The more serious, 'business' side of the insight was combined well with other varied talks and activities, including a presentation on body language.
There were 32 of us, meaning we did not get much one-on-one attention, apart from the mock interview breifly. However the (difficult) choice of deciding what service line we should take was valued by Deloitte, and a huge focus of the insight was to help us decide this.
A good amount - during the business games the people at Deloitte were usually on hand to help if we had any questions. At dinner on the first evening, the employees who sat at our table were really open about their jobs, and were happy to answer any questions we had.
I definitely improved my team working skills given that we played so many Business Games and always worked in teams. Meeting so many people in such a short space of time was also something to experience which should help in the future. Apart from this there weren't many other skills I picked up, apart from giving us an insight into Deloitte.
The Company
Extremely well-structured - the day felt quite regimented with a lot of activities in just two days, which towards of the second day was a little tiring, but this meant that we were constantly engaged in the firm and the activities.
Pleasant and not too formal - the employees were friendly and approachable, and the other students were all really friendly and we got along. The students who came were from a wide range of universities, so it was interesting to find out what those places were like to study at.
Some development - the mock interview helped us figure out our strengths and weaknesses in preparation for a proper interview, and the team work in the team tasks is definitely a transferrable skill. Apart from this not a huge amount.
Not very much. As said before the main approach it seemed was to help us make a decision about which service line we'd go into, and the tasks involved were of course explained. However the day-to-day experience was not touched on that much, so for a better insight we asked the employees at dinner. Despite this we didn't get a tour of the offices so it was hard to envision what it would visually look like working at the St Albans branch.
The vast amount of employees from various parts of the company that came in and spoke to us gave me a good sense of what the people who worked at Deloitte were like. Again, the dinner with the employees was key in getting a feel for what the culture was about.
It was very valuable in helping me decide whether a career in Professional Services would be the right choice for me, and what service line I'd take. The atmosphere of the insight was useful in understanding what working in a corporate environment would be like.
Everything Else
I did not need reimbursement.
Yes, but only over dinner really. It was just one employee to five students, meaning if you wanted purely a one-on-one conversation it wasn't really possible. Despite this they were happy to share contact information.
As I said previously, the networking side with employees was ok. There was also ample time to talk to the other students over lunch, the breaks, and at the hotel.
It was mentioned only briefly at dinner by one of the employees.
Definitely; it's really useful for helping you decide whether Professional Services is right for you, and where you'd fit in within such a career.
