About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight into EY. The two days were planned exceptionally well. I learnt a great deal about EY's Assurance and Tax lines, met some great people and got a good feel for what a day in the office would consist of. The two days were invaluable and provided me with the information needed to decide what line I would like to work in. My expectations were surpassed!
All staff members made me feel very valued during my time at EY. From the moment I walked into the office, I was directed to the office room by a member of staff who was very friendly and keen to find out more about me. Over the two days, I had the chance to talk to interns, recent graduates, managers and partners of the firm. Everyone was exceptionally approachable and it felt like they were genuinely keen to invest time in me. This is what sets EY apart from other companies.
Throughout the programme we were given a lot of support. During all group activities we were allocated a member of staff who acted as a mentor. If we had any problems they were ready to help us out and gave us a lot of advice which was great. Also, they gave us feedback which was extremely useful for moving forward. Moreover, we were given a number of presentations on Assurance and Tax and had the opportunity to ask questions to a panel of interns and recent graduates. This gave me a good insight into what it would be like to work at EY as they were very honest and didn’t ‘sugar coat’ anything.
This programme was very useful for me as I was unsure of whether EY was right for me as a company to work for. After participating in Discover EY, I was able to establish that EY is definitely a company I would like to work for and also the exact service I would like to work in. I also gained networking, teamwork and presentation skills. As a group we were given a brief and had to give a presentation to a client explaining how EY could help them. This was very enjoyable and gave me a practical insight into a typical working day at EY.
The Company
The programme was structured exceptionally well and every detail was carefully thought out. Before we arrived we were given an itinerary outlining exactly how the two days would run. The two days were packed full of valuable information and ran to plan. At times there was a lot of information to take in, however we were given regular breaks to help process the information.
The general atmosphere was very friendly and everybody was keen to learn more about EY and get to know others. Staff members were approachable and on hand to answer any questions we had, giving an overall positive feel to the programme. On the whole, the two days were fun and inclusive.
For a two day event, I felt a great deal of time and effort was invested in me. A number of staff members took the time out to give us presentations and answer any questions we had. The activities I completed were relevant to the company and allowed me to gain a lot of new skills which will help me in the future.
The insight helped me to gain a good understanding of what it would be like to work for EY. We were given thorough presentations on the two service lines Assurance and Tax and the departments within each. It not only helped me to choose what line I would like to work in, but also gave me a good idea of the exams I would need to sit and how I could progress through the company. We also had the chance to ask questions to staff about working hours, interacting with clients and the networks available once in the company.
The programme gave me a great feel for the company culture at EY. Everyone was very friendly, approachable and always on hand to help if you had any problems or questions. It was very clear that all staff are treated with respect and integrity and everyone has the opportunity to progress. We also learnt about EY’s 2020 vision which helped give us an insight into the future of the company and its values.
The presentations we were given on Assurance and Tax were very useful and helped me to decide what department I would like to work in. They gave us an insight into what a typical day in each department would consist of, general working hours, the exams we would need to take and the opportunities to progress. This programme is especially beneficial if you are unsure of which line you would like to work in or would like to gain a feel for what it would be like to work for EY.
Everything Else
EY will reimburse my train tickets to London and paid for me to stay in a hotel within walking distance of the office for two nights. I was also provided with breakfast and lunch on both days and dinner on the first night.
There were plenty of opportunities to network and meet staff from the company. During breakfast and lunch, staff members would join us and were keen to find out more about us and were happy to answer any questions we had. Also, at the end of the first day, we attended a compulsory dinner where 18 staff members joined us. Staff members included interns, associates, managers and partners and so we got the chance to network with a lot of people and had the chance to find out a great deal about what EY has to offer.
We were given plenty of time and opportunities to talk with a range of staff from recent graduates to senior partners. The compulsory dinner provided us with a great opportunity to learn a lot about the company. Also, it was nice to get to know the staff members and talk about their life outside of work.
We were told about the numerous networks provided at EY, the opportunities to join sports clubs and the option to spend two days of the year carrying out charity work. We also learnt about the socials that take part outside of working hours and had the chance to get to know what staff members do in their spare time during the networking dinner.
I would definitely recommend this programme to a friend. The skills and knowledge I gained over the two days are invaluable and has helped me to confirm the service line I would like to work in. I had a lot of fun, met so many great people including students and staff and feel EY is right for me. The event surpassed my expectations and I hope to join EY for my year in industry.
