The Role
I really enjoyed my placement with HP. From the offset they gave me real responsibility, carrying out real work supporting one of the many accounts ran out of the Newcastle offices. HP really gave me the best experiences possible throughout my internship I got the opportunity to work on various accounts which HP support and meet company executives right the way up to senior vice-president level!
Networking was a large part of my placement. From day one I have grown my HP network by working in both small and global teams. Throughout my internship my opinion was always valued and HP really aims to get the most out of their interns. As an intern, I was involved in all the graduate team-building events in which I was able to meet graduates from various accounts and locations across the country.

In my experiences, day-to-day work varied which was something I really enjoyed. I always enjoyed being busy and there is always training courses available to take advantage of during quiet periods.
I was given a great deal of responsibility throughout my internship. Myself and the three other interns we had in the Newcastle offices helped to take lead the intern recruitment process in which we reviewed cvs and interviewed candidates both on the telephone and face-to-face. I was also accountable for training my replacement!
During my internship I successfully passed an ITIL foundation course and an introduction to project management course. The training I received throughout the roles which I carried out was excellent and my presentation and organisational skills have increased a lot as a result carrying out a placement with HP!
The Company
There was always a buzz in the teams which I worked in which helped to produce productivity and communication. The graduate scheme in Newcastle has grown a lot over the last 12 months which has given me the opportunity to meet and work with a wide range of people.
In my experience, the work placement was set up really well. I really enjoyed the work rotations and the challenges that came with it!
During my on boarding, I was required to undertake the same training as a graduate would take during their on boarding. This entailed; a foundation course in ITIL and an introduction to project management course.

I hope to be welcomed back on to the graduate scheme after university. I've had the best year working with HP and hope to start a successful career with HP upon completion of my degree.
The Culture
The social scene was great amongst colleagues and interns/graduates. Throughout my placement year I have been involved in many nights out, go-karting, bowling, mini-golf - the list is endless!
I lived about 7 miles away from my placement. Overall cost of living and socialising was reasonable, I chose to live closer to the city rather than the office but there's plenty of accommodation available next to both.
Newcastle has a great nightlife. There's plenty of bars and clubs to take advantage of.
