The Role
Loved Placement! It gave me the skills to be able to apply and develop myself further and will help me when I finally go back for 3rd year.
At Cummins I was seen as part of the team and not just the placement student, the work given to me was very value adding to the company
The Work given to me was very challenging to begin with but the learning and guidance was there for me when I needed it.
to start off with I was less busy because my boss only gave me the amount of work he thought I could handle but over the months I was given more and more so I was never bored.
To start with I was doing some tasks that didn't seem to be helping anything but over the months more responsibility was handed to me which was good.
The skills and knowledge I have learned will defiantly help me in the future. This placement has given me the extra advantage above others when applying for grad schemes. The work situations I managed as well has helped me to apply myself in 3rd year.
The Company
I worked in an office of 12, everyone got on with there work but the occasional conversation was allowed. everyone was very friendly which was good.
To start with I had a 5 week hand over period with the current placement student which helped me to learn to ropes, after this I was given a set of tasks everyday and told to do them as I pleased so the structure was flexible which I liked.
In terms of training I was given a whole lot, but there were courses you could go on.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
Good! if you work hard they will hire you if the position is there.
The Culture
YES! at CTT Huddersfield where I work there is currently 30+ placement students so there's always things going on, I know there have been trips organised to Dublin and Lisbon already.
Huddersfield is a cheap university town so price wise isn't bad, I live a 10 minute walk away in a large house and pay 90 pound a week. I know other peoples rent as low as 60 a week.
OK, not like big cities but Leeds is only a 15 minute train journey away.
yes, charity events such as EEEC where you have the day off to work in the community where given.
