The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I was able to experience a large majority of HR aspects and it has really helped confirm that this is a career choice I want to pursue in the future,
I was treated equally by my colleagues and they were happy to support me in the different projects I was undertaking. I felt comfortable asking them for feedback or advice as I needed it and they made effort to involve me in tasks which would help my development in my role. Managers and students work well together across all departments
I was given full support across all of my tasks and projects by my manager. We had weekly updates in which I had the opportunity to raise and queries or questions that I had. This also gave me the opportunity to receive feedback from my manager for projects I was working on so I was aware of areas for improvement.
Depending on the projects I was working on there were periods where my workload was higher than at other times, however I never found myself with nothing to do. If I ever found my workload was too much I felt comfortable informing my manager but this was rare. I was involved in a large majority of aspects within the department so I had a number of projects on the go at one time.
I was given a high level of responsibility in areas where this was possible. I had ownership of a number of projects as well as some processes
There was a number of training sessions available during my placement and I feel the majority of these will be useful in the future such as Six Sigma and Excel skills. These are two training sessions I personally requested to attend and my manager pushed me to attend any sessions that I felt would be beneficial.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was good, due to working in a confidential space it was often fairly quiet as people were busy but there was still a positive atmosphere.
The placement was organised well. The company put all the students in touch with each other early in the recruitment process so house sharing was fairly straight forward, The company has reviews in place so that progress is tracked which is good evidence for university portfolios.
The company encouraged me to attend training if they felt it would be beneficial to my development. I also had the opportunity to attend training/workshops off site, and there are online training programs available which I was encouraged to complete in order to aid my development.

I would be very interested in returning to the company after I graduate. I feel the company offers excellent benefits as well as opportunities for development. As a global company there's also a lot of overseas opportunities which would appeal to many people.
The Culture
I really enjoyed both events out of work with my colleagues and other placement students. Students frequently organised out-of-work activities and as a department we often organised meals etc after work during the week which i would always attend.
The cost of living was fairly standard, it wasn't too expensive. I chose to live a 25 minute drive from the site in Northampton but I had no issues paying for fuel as well as rent.
Living in Northampton there was sufficient choice on various nightlife however if I had chosen to live in Daventry where the site is based I may have been fairly limited. This is one of the factors in which I chose Northampton as opposed to Daventry and I was pleased that I did so. There's a number of bars and clubs as well as a student base due to being near a University.
There was a lot of activities organised between both students and colleagues outside of work. There's a lot of different activities fairly local which provided a lot of choice for weekends/evenings.
