The Role
The work was invigorating and testing. Allowing me to develop both professionally and personally,
The overwhelming feeling at Cummin's Power Generation was of being were as any normal employee would, in both social and professional circles. Straight away your opinion is valued and in some cases even sought after.
Personally the support and guidance hit the right note. I always felt there was a safety net when i needed it, but my supervisors were prepared to to trust me and put me in the deep end. Guidance walks a fine line with Coddling and personally the balance was just right.
As with any professional roles there are periods of lower activity, waiting for stakeholders and team members or simply events to unfold elsewhere. However i was never bored and there was always things to be done.
More than i anticipated. I project managed and held responsibilities within the first few months of the placement and this only escalated as time passed.
As to my degree, little. Apart from a drastically enhanced work ethic, my experience of working life has only reminded me how abstract a degree can be. As to beyond: Massively, i feel more prepared now for a professional career thanks more to this year than the rest of my educational development combined
The Company
Relaxed, happy and industrious.
Sorting placements out with accommodation could be better organized and i felt more emphasis should have been made on the on-boarding programs. But once settled; it was very well structured.
Full day training sessions run throughout the year focusing on things such as Presentation skills, team work and customer experience. All these are delivered by a private training company the company pays for.

The Culture
My placement was in Ramsgate, a smallish town. The nearest place of any size is Canterbury. A lovely city with many nice bars and pubs. Compared to student life the atmosphere is more sedate. However with a large contingent of placements taken on each year there is always the option of getting a good crowd together.
As a northerner and a student the prices in Kent and the surrounding areas seemed inflated. General living and socializing costs more than I'm used to, however the new found funds counterbalances this, i never felt student poor all year.
Canterbury has good pubs and bars, very few clubs. the typical student nightlife can be hard to find.
With enough employees working here there are always opportunities to join sports teams and social gatherings. The sports and social clubs also offer discounted events and tickets.
