The Role
Great job with lots of personal development that challenged me.
Truly made to be part of the team, being incorporated into a small dev team helped. Making actual changes and solving problems that would then be shipped to customers made me feel very worthwhile!
Sync ups casually on a daily basis, and status meeting weekly helped to ensure I had enough work. Management being around and sharing the open plan office design meant they were always approachable with any Qs.
Generally very good with only a few occasions where I was left to get on with reading a textbook etc, but you've got to learn somehow!
As mentioned above, working of product code and merging it in to the central code store myself meant I made a real contribution, and my mistakes could easily have broken things for others!
Improvements in communications and planning skills are invaluable, not to mention the technical improvements!
The Company
Communal design with only high up managers having offices and frequent social events and sports gave a great feeling of community. Focussed atmosphere but only because everyone's very interested in their work!
A yearly intake of 30-40 even though the company is only medium sized means the scheme is now well-oiled and efficient.
Given presentations and talks by my assigned mentor with the aim that by the end of the summer I'd have a good grasp on the technology and products of the section of the company I worked in.
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Got a Job! What else can I say!
The Culture
0Staying in company houses nearby and some organised social events (which the company paid for) made us into a very good group.
Subsidised company housing very cheap.
Enfield not the greatest with only a few pubs. Central london only 20 min away by train.
Not hugely but it was only over the summer.
