The Role
At first, being thrown in the deep end was hard. Manager support can only be given so much and to be work with a whole team of experienced professionals, I needed to learn skills quickly and adapt to the new culture.
As with most people, you've got to have time to get to know people. I spent the time working either with my team on my site or working virtually with my colleagues in Brazil or USA. I developed great relationship with my oversea colleagues which I managed to meet later into my year. I felt that team knew I was part of the team from day 1.
A line manager is always available to help and their line manager is always not that far, either in the office or a simple message. Otherwise, I had a buddy that I talked to weekly about everything other than work, and things around work such as performance, working relations and general life experience.
As some points I was taking two people's role all by myself, while other times, I would just attend training to use my time wisely. It depends on the role, but there's always work you can do within your team.
After a colleague left, I replaced her role for majority of my placement. Being recognised to so was a good sign and that later on, I was commended on my work I felt that my team trusted me to allow me to do work independently.
All the skills I learnt and mainly it was about communication with people, will last forever. I've learnt to adapt to communicate to the right audience and also develop a way to work that helps me to develop myself.
The Company
We always went to lunch together as a team and had laugh during breaks, however we talk work over our short lunch period.
There are a very small amount of placement students during the year I was participating and therefore training was down to the individual line manager. However, my line manager gave me the flexibility to choose what training I would like.
I was able to attend events and join calls, purely from an experience point of view. Once your a graduate, training is editable as part of the scheme and it prepares you for the rest of the work ahead.

The Culture
My other fellow placement students were always up for going out in Liverpool but the the occasional pub lunch happened here and there.
Liverpool is cheap to live generally and if you find the right location and preparing to commute for a bit, then it's quite good value. The shopping centre keeps everything exciting and varied.
Generally, clubs don't really charge much and drinks are at a relatively good price. Clubs and bars in Liverpool and mostly in one place, so you can't really go wrong.
Extra curricular activities were mainly down to the individual and the company supports the idea. However, activities outside of work is mainly organised by groups of colleagues.
