About You
The 4 days I spent with Taylor Wessing were very enjoyable. I had the opportunity to meet a variety of people, from my peers on the work experience scheme to very senior people in the firm. This scheme has really motivated me to apply to Taylor Wessing in the future.
I felt that my supervisor was very appreciative of any and all help I was able to provide her with and the HR team were very encouraging.
There were many people that I felt I could ask for help. My supervisor obviously provided me with the most support but I also felt comfortable asking trainees and other members of the Real Estate group for assistance if I needed.
As a non-law university student, gaining experience in the legal sector is incredibly beneficial therefore, this insight will be very helpful if I do pursue a career in Law. However, I also gained other skills - such as working in a team on a group project, interview technique and networking - that will be applicable in other areas.
The Company
The days varied in structure. The first day followed a busy timetable in order to properly introduce us into the firm and to give us more practical information. The next 3 days of the placement were less structured but there was still opportunity to attend talks on CV writing, interview technique and Taylor Wessing's recruitment process. The final day involved a presentation, which gave us something something to work towards during our time at the firm. The rest of the time was largely structured by our supervisor who gave tasks when they needed to be done.
The atmosphere in the firm was very welcoming and friendly. There didn't seem to be an obvious hierarchy and everyone on the floor seemed to get on well.
The firm encouraged us to apply to them in the future.
Through sharing a room with a junior associate I was able to gain an understanding of the day-to-day life of a lawyer. I was also given tasks that were similar to that of a trainee, meaning that I understood what I would be doing if I were to pursue a career in law.
I sat only in the Real Estate group so my experience was limited to this floor, but I was able to see how people interacted within the group and gained an understanding through this.
The week was very helpful as it demonstrated the nature of the work that a lawyer would be doing and also illustrated the skills necessary to be successful in this career.
Everything Else
I was not paid or reimbursed expenses
Yes - there was a networking lunch arranged
These events were largely attended by the trainees and our supervisors, meaning we got the chance to talk to people who weren't just in our group. Meeting trainees was particularly beneficial.
Not through the scheme
