About You
Absolutely loved the insight. Fantastic to actually see the day-to-day job of a Commercial Lawyer. Felt like the tasks I was being given were relevant and important (considering it was only an insight). Supervisors were all more than helpful and eager to inform me about the life of a lawyer; including the good and the bad!
Felt very valued, the tasks I was set seemed important and good practise for typically set tasks for trainees (for example lease summaries) The tasks also helped me gain a greater understanding of the profession, they were set for a purpose, not menial coffee runs!
Guidance and support was always being thrown at me. Both supervisors and HR were very head on at ensuring every question was answered, and that all of the insight students felt very at home at Taylor Wessing. Not only supervisors but everyone at the firm was always eager to support and ask/answer questions even though they really didn't have to. Put Taylor Wessing in a great light.
Emphasis was placed on the development towards important and transferrable skills on the placement. For example, we were placed in groups and had to make a presentation on legal challenges. The skill of both presenting and communication as well as team work clearly will assist me in both my degree and even more so in my profession career. The tasks set also demonstrated the real world important of legal principles taught at University. My time in the Real Estate cleared up many practical issues I came across in my Land Law module.
The Company
Very well structured. Everyday there were supplementary workshops on things like CV writing, interview technique and commercial awareness. The close relationship with your personal supervisor also ensured there were always tasks to be done or meetings/calls to sit into. No time for BBC Sport!!
Excellent. The whole firm came across in a very friendly, professional and open manner. I felt like I could walk into any office and have a chat with a Partner, asking for advice on my presentation or how to go about applying for a Vac scheme/training contract. Big emphasis on networking allowed me to create links with people in the firm, from HR to Partners to Trainees and Paralegals.
A lot, all of the events put on aimed to deal with this.
I gained a great insight through my experience with my Supervisor what a full time role would be like.
Taylor Wessing's core values were present throughout the placement. Emphasis place on relationships and innovation. Very friendly, supportive. Little competition between collegues.
Definitely pushed me in the direction of Commercial law!
