About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight programme. It provided me with a great opportunity to get my first piece of legal work experience.
While at the firm I felt very valued. I was taken care of by the Grad Recruitment team and also by the trainees.
During the insight I received support from my supervising trainee. He provided me with work to be doing during the second day. The Grad Recruitment team also provided me with invaluable guidance regarding future applications.
The skills I developed will definitely assist me beyond my studies. Hopefully they will stand me in good stead to when it comes to applying for vac schemes in the future, and ultimately training contracts.
The Company
The insight scheme was very well structured. We received timetables on the first morning outlining what the different activities were going to be. However, during the second day I was able to spend my time on different tasks without being restricted.
Everyone that I met, from trainees to partners to the grad recruitment, was very helpful and welcoming. The general atmosphere was one of calm professionalism.
On the first day especially, there was a talk focusing on creating our own personal brand.
As I spent the second day with trainees sat in the offices of the department I was placed in, I was able to get a real sense of what it would be like to have a full time role at the firm. As it is only a 2 day scheme, it is hard to see every aspect of the firm, however, given the time I do feel as though I have a better understanding of what it would be like.
The company culture was actually discussed in one of the talks on the first day. Eating in the canteen and socialising with employees helped me to understand the company culture as well.
The content was very valuable to me. It has solidified my interest in a career in Law, and made me very excited for what the future may hold.
Everything Else
An allowance of £100 was given for the 2 days.
Yes, both lunchtimes were spent with a trainee from a different department, enabling us to meet other employees. After the second day we also went for drinks which gave us an opportunity to socialise with other employees.
As this was only a 2 day scheme we only socialised on the evening of the second day. The event planned by the Grad Recruitment team was great fun and provided us with a good opportunity to network with trainees at the firm.
I found out about training opportunities that supplement the work.
I would absolutely recommend this insight programme to a friend.
