The Role
Everyday I was always bored and getting out of bed in the morning became a chore.
The people in the department are very nice and we all got on really well with the exception of the department boss. The boss was very rude and agressive in her nature which caused bad atmospheres during meetings
There was a lot of communication between myself and the department but none of this was work related. I would often chat to whoever I could find just to ease the boredom
I was constantly bored either due to the lack or work or the monotonous nature of the work. I would often look busy to avoid doing unnecessary and boring tasks
Apart from when my supervisor injured herself and had 7 weeks off I had no responsibility.
All I have gained is the knowledge that desk work is not for me!
The Company
I really liked and interacted well with many people on my floor and enjoyed talking to them
While they were prepared for my arrival, there was no desk or computer set up for me when I arrived. I was given my desk and computer later in the day after meeting the boss of the department as she was on holiday during my interviews (very unprofessional in my opinion)
I received Spanish lessons which were useless! It was members of staff giving up their lunch break to teach us but for absolute beginners the clases were hopeless, for people with a little knowledge or more I heard the classes were very benefical. Apart from my wages Amadeus did not spend a penny on me. I had 1 expensed meal at christmas, a total of 20€, compared to other organisations a pathetic total.
I would rather take full time bar jobs upon graduation than take a job in any amadeus office anywhere in the world!
The Culture
The other placement students were a great laugh, without each other I think we would have gone crazy! We would spend almost the entire day chatting on an internal msn system and we went out every weekend!
Providing you don't spend too much time in Irish bars the cost of living is very good. Alcohol is very cheap, food is very cheap, trvael on the metro is very cheap.
I lived in Sol, the centre of Madrid and it was incredible, I was completely surrounded by bars and clubs and could walk to almost anywhere.
The Amadeus Works Council gives you many opportunities to go skiing, or on golf weekends, etc for a discount but placement employees get very little discount compared to full time employees, and with the wages we get the majority are too expensive.
