About You
Discover EY provided me with an invaluable insight to what a job in assurance and tax is like. Through presentations from senior professionals within the firms' sub-service lines, allowed for a better understanding of each service line. More importantly, answers to our questions were answered more thoroughly. I really enjoyed the second day of the programme, where we were set tasks to solve. For me this really highlighted the type of work and the challenging environment it is carried out in, at EY.
Throughout the two days, there were numerous opportunities to ask questions and the structure of the programme was set out in a very informative way. What made me feel valued during my time is the vast range and number of EY employees that came to help out in the programme. There were presentations from partners, senior managers and recent graduates, which helped to build an idea of profession within the firm.
During the first day, there was always support and guidance to help us understand what exactly happens in assurance and tax. During breaks there was always someone around talking to us and answering any questions we had. During the mini games we were accompanied by supervisors to help us develop the main ideas behind the service lines. On the second day in our groups, we carried out a client pitch presentation, accompanied by an EY employee. She guided us whenever we were unsure about the task, answered all our questions relating to the task and in general about working at EY.
The skills I learnt and further developed on my time at EY were networking skills, communication skills and leadership skills. Communication is essential aspect to my degree in chemistry. Especially when working within a team during laboratory experiments as an input from every member on different stages of the experiment will result in correct end product. Networking skills I have learnt at EY has also helped to expand my business knowledge, as it has allowed me to build links with EY employees. This skill I feel will greatly help me later on in my professional career. Similarly, leadership skills I have developed with EY will help me in the sports and societies I am part of as well as later on in my career.
The Company
The two days was structured very well. Everyone was provided with the agenda of the programme a week before, detailing all the talks, tasks and question and answer sessions. The only negative I would say is the length of day one. It was tiring siting for a long period of time in one room, so maybe a longer break would be better. All in all the two days were run impressively well.
All participants and staff was very excited to be part of the programme, and this created a very positive atmosphere. The venue for the programme was EY's offices in London, which also created an amazing working atmosphere, with great views of London. The passion of EY employees created a very welcoming environment and therefore made it very easy to approach them regarding any questions we had.
The first day involved us understanding the work within each service line. The the following day involved us to apply what we learnt from the previous day to the group tasks set to us. This was very useful for me, as it provided a hands on experience on tasks carried out at EY
The whole of second day was aimed towards providing us with an insight into what working at the firm would be like. We also learnt how as group we had to communicate our findings to a client, and the process of finding weaknesses and threats within a client's firm.
We developed a good understanding of the firms ethics and culture, especially spending two days in their London office.
The two days were very useful in helping me to understanding what EY actually do.
Everything Else
There was option to have accommodation for the two days paid for and transport reimbursed.
Discover EY is truly an amazing programme, it was very well structured and the staff were very welcoming, all made for an exceptional experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Discover EY to a friend.
