About You
A lot. It was great to network with like-minded students from different universities, as well as learning a great amount about the business.
We were given the opportunity to work shadow employees across different divisions as well as being offered guidance on presentation and interview skills.
I definitely understand the role of the FCA now, and the role they play within financial services and banks.
The Company
Very good. There was a mix of lecturing, networking and group work so it was a nice balance. It also gave us the chance to experience the typical business working hours, usually running from 9am-5:30pm.
Everyone was extremely friendly and supportive as we all shared the same career aspirations which was great.
Interview and presentation practice was offered as well as receiving valuable contacts by networking with current employees (including senior members of the business!). Plus, we got to learn about the recruitment process for the Summer Internship and Graduate Scheme the FCA have to offer.
As I previously mentioned, it was a challenge to get used to the business working hours as you don't actually understand how tiring it is until you experience a full week yourself! It was great to work shadow one of the employees however this was only for one division of the company so it would've been nicer to rotate/spend more time.
Through the lectures, networking and work shadowing, I got a really feel for the company culture.
Very good. A lot of information was given about the company in the lectures (plus we were given a booklet and hand out slides) so we could fully engage and understand the concept of financial regulation.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed travel expenses (the tube).
All of the staff answered as many questions as we pleased which was really encouraging, as well as handing us business cards/email addresses to keep in touch. We also were given the opportunity to network with many employees over lunch. It was a really friendly environment.
Well organised. We got to network with employees across many departments. It was great to network with each other too (those involved in the spring week) when we were working on presentations.
Voluntary work as well as groups such as netball, basketball, women's network etc.
Definitely. A very insightful week, and learnt a great deal about the the business. There's only one FCA so it was the perfect overview of financial regulation. It's given me a lot to think about and I will definitely be applying to the summer internship.
