About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my spring week programme. It was a fantastic way to learn so much information about all the various divisions of the bank and explore certain career pathways, as well as meeting an amazing group of like-minded people.
I felt valued in a sense that i was congratulated on my achievement of making it onto the spring week. I also felt that my contribution to the business world as a woman would be highly valued.
I received a lot of support in terms of individual advice and networking opportunities to discuss career prospects.
Although my spring week did not involve shadowing an employee, I had a group presentation to work on and was constantly networking with various business individuals in senior positions. This will help me when working on university projects as my teamwork skills have benefited as well as my communication skills.
The Company
The week had a defined schedule for each day which was clearly set out in our individual hand books.
There was an amazing atmosphere during my spring week as i was surrounded by a diverse group of girls who all shared the same ambition for learning and the motivation to succeed.
we did not receive training as such. but the company invested time in us since they provided us with various skill-building sessions and workshops to help us start to develop the necessary skills required for the various job divisions.
The insight gave us an extensive understanding with regards to the job role in the bank. However it would have been very useful to experience a typical day of work for an employee.
The insight helped me understand the business's culture extremely well, since all of the speakers gave us the same opinion regarding the people and general atmosphere that surrounds the business.
It was very valuable content as all sectors delivered detailed presentations that provided me with all the information I would need when deciding if this was a career i wanted to pursue.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed expenses in terms of travel to the venue as well as being provided with accommodation for the week. I was not paid.
Yes there were extensive networking events arranged throughout the week that i was expected to attend in order to build a rapport with other employees.
These opportunities were a brilliant way to ask individuals their experiences of the job and for advice about how to go about getting into their field of work.
I found out about Business resource groups which employees can be involved in which involve common interests.
I would most definitely recommend the JP Morgan spring week to a friend interested in pursuing a career in banking as it provides an excellent overview and really helps you to consolidate your knowledge and career options.
