About You
I really enjoyed the insight week. It has been very informative and the mixture of sessions from networking to presentations to activities has kept the week very engaging. The exposure to all the different businesses within the bank also made if very enjoyable. Sometimes however I found that it was a 'information' overload. Nonetheless upon reflection it was really helpful to have it in this way as it made me reflect and look over what I have learnt or been told about when I got home. I also really enjoyed working and getting to know new people within the week.
I really felt that the firm valued my time as the number of Senior guest speakers shows how much they value their graduate recruitment. This made me feel that firstly they chose the people for the Spring Week very carefully. Also Karen, one of the speakers had read all our CVs and I was really impressed by how much she remembered from all our CVs. Furthermore, any questions I had were answered in a thorough and clear manner and were always welcomed by any employee at JP Morgan.
Graduate Recruitment were always there to support us with any questions we had and I always felt that my questions or queries were welcomed and not judged.
I think the team working skills together with my ability to listen carefully for long periods of time and note take have improved this week. These skills will in turn help me during my daily life at university in particular when it comes to group projects. I also think the information received this week will help me decide on what I want to do beyond my degree.
The Company
The insight was really well structured, Being able to see all the different business areas together with being able to network was very valuable and enjoyable for me.
Mainly friendly. Sometimes it felt that other spring interns were being very competitive however I think that is the nature of any internship. Nonetheless as the week progressed competitiveness reduced and people were far more focused on purely enjoying the experience.
They invested a lot of time in us. Senior people gave up their time to come and speak with us which helped me in particular think about my career aspirations.
I definitely think it helped me gain an insight, I think if the placement had been longer, even by a day whereby we could sit with our preferred areas I would have had a better idea about exactly what a full time role within the company would be like. However, I did not find this a detriment considering I am a first year student and the overview, skills sessions and other interactive sessions were very useful to me. I think the length of the day and commuting definitely helped give me an insight into what type of lifestyle I would be living outside of the workplace as well.
A lot, speaking with the people and asking and hearing their different opinions about the company gave me a big insight into what it would be like to work here.
Very helpful, the business overviews in particular have helped me decided on my future career paths.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed for travel expenses however I was not paid for the insight.
Yes. They organised networking events and they also the people I met there were more than willing to give us email addresses and I have since contacted them with further questions.
Successful. I spoke with many people from different areas of the bank and I was able to
A bit, not as much as I maybe would have liked upon reflection. Mainly people said that they were able to be social or they spoke about the work/life balance.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend especially one who was maybe uncertain of whether they wanted to go into banking as it provided a good overview of everything the bank does.
