About You
The insight week was very enjoyable. Several networking opportunities with JP Morgan employees were provided. Talks from business representatives about the different segments within the bank also proved very informative, often allowing us to gain clarifications on misunderstood areas.
The programme was less of an internship; it was more akin to an insight week. Consequently, we were not provided with direct access to the company's endeavors. However, we were given case studies which were linked to some cutting edge operations which had previously been undertaken by the bank. This allowed us to gain an insight into the workings of the company, and envisage ourselves as actual analysts within the bank.
The support was amazing, The product coordinators were really on hand to answer any queries we had, and pass on requests to the relevant business leaders. Our project mentors also provided very clear guidance and tips on how to enhance our performance in the final assessed project, which was a presentation.
The main skill I developed was assertiveness and confidence in my opinions. Previously, I always tried to play the part of the 'nice girl,' and I aimed to be very polite to everyone, b y not interjecting or disagreeing with a conflicting viewpoint to mine. However, my group projects taught me the value of balancing assertiveness and speaking out, with listening to the opinions of others within the group.
The Company
The insight was very structured. Everything from the recruitment process, to the group projects and business talks flowed seamlessly. The project coordinators did a fantastic job of keeping to the time constraints.
The atmosphere was conducive, supportive and insightful. It was also very fast-paced which adequately kept me on my toes, and encouraged me to ask more questions.
The networking sessions, business leader talks and group projects heightened my communication skills, my commercial acumen, my listening skills and quickly deciding on a core factor on the spot. These are valuable skills I can take into my next few years at university.
The working hours, the pace and content of work and the talks not only allowed us to gain an insight into what a day at the firm could look like, but also enabled us to ask questions on whether adequate support was provided, all of which helped to clear my queries.
Support and guidance were 2 key factors that almost all the representatives, particularly the more junior ones emphasized. Contrary to the misconceptions I had on banking, the talks helped to clarify that JP Morgan, albeit competitive, was very conducive to growth, learning from mistakes and cooperation
It was very valuable, and has helped to solidify my options/thoughts. Although, more real life experience in our preferred fields would have been appreciated.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed my travel expenses. This was my main form of spending, so that was really nice.
Yes, several. These happened on each day, and really allowed employees to get to know some of us.
They were very friendly, and the business representatives gave some crucial tips, hints and words of advice that would inevitably aid any future applications I make,
Oh yes. On one day, a female entrepreneur came to speak to us, thus reflecting how keen the bank is, on inviting high performers across all industries. Several group activities and societies were also prevalent within the bank, which showed the way it sculpted its employees into well-balanced, varied, interesting individuals.
On yes, absolutely. It was tough, long and tiring at times. However, getting into a scheme of this magnitude opens up several doors in future, as well as giving you an insight into what areas one can refine, so as to boost and polish their personal brand.
