The Role
I did and do enjoy my placement but there is always room for improvements. I do not have anything bad to say about how the placement is run and managed, instead I must praise it. The placement is run in 4 rotations with 3 months spent in each department. This means that I can get a much broader view of the whole company and find the correct role for me. But it is not all good, some departments are very IT and programming focused but yet they take on mechanical engineering students. Also facilities on the site could be improved.
Placement students are valued and given meaningful work (most of the time). Students ideas are listened and discussed,
Everyone was always happy to help. Managers gave good guidance to all aspects of work.
Not always busy but workload was good otherwise. Not worked to death. If I wanted more tasks I could always ask my manager.
Depending on the department, some allowed me to run the entire testing, others did not give as much responsibility, Overall very good, in the end I am only a placement student at the moment.
Not sure how much it will help me with studies as most of what I have learned in Uni this far did not help me much at work and I do not thing much of what I have learned here will help me in Uni. Basic understanding of physics including fluid dynamics and thermodynamics were good enough to get started. There were a lot of training that will definitely help me with my hobbies and future career.
The Company
Friendly and welcoming, people get along great and there is no office drama. Score is 7 because of the fact that there is no privacy either, the cubicle walls are not very tall and other can always see what you are doing.
As said before, i spent 3 months in 4 different departments. This helps quite a lot to get a broader view of the company and find the best role for me.
A lot of training available. This covers everything from giving presentations to six sigma.

Would definitely come back. It is possible to do a sponsored Masters degree and later it is possible to get a job at every single Cummins site in the world.
The Culture
A lot of events organized by the placement students from going for drinks on a Friday evening to international travel.
Lived in Bradford so probably the cheapest place in UK.
Something for everyone, cannot complain.
Cummins sponsored events and a chance to get involved with any charity you like. Charity work is also sponsored and almost compulsory by the company.
