The Role
I fully enjoyed the internship it was a great experience. It was good to develop a better understanding of how a big company works and to get more of a feel of what its like to have a full time job.
Throughout the year I did feel valued by my colleagues, I felt that I put in as much effort as I could throughout the year and they made me feel like they appreciated that. I especially felt valued by my manager who gave me very good feedback when my tutor from university came to visit me whilst on placement.
Throughout the year I felt very supported by my manager. We would have a weekly catch up to see what I was getting on with and to make sure I was happy with the work I was given. This would also allow us to discuss any upcoming projects or things I would be involved with. I felt I could raise any issues if there were any with her and she would listen to what I had to say.
It varied throughout the year depending on whether we had an event coming up as I would be very busy trying to help sort out logistics for the event. However I did find times where I would be quiet and not have much on, if this happened I would be pro active and find something to do by either asking if anyone in my team needed help or by starting a mini project I could work on in the quieter periods.
I was given a fair bit of responsibility. I was in charge of looking after our mock up samples so I had to distribute them between the markets when they requested them. I had to make sure all the correct samples were sent and make sure they all came back in good condition. I also had the responsibility of liaising with our off-site storage company to order any bits of equipment we had stored there if it was needed.
I improved both my Photshop and Illustrator skills. I also learnt how to use adobe indesign and Bridge. I also learnt how to use the company specific software. I believe developing these skills will help me in both my degree and in my next job.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was mainly relaxed unless we had a big event coming up where it would be a bit more stressful - which is to be expected! The team I worked alongside were very friendly and welcoming I felt like I was part of the team and they didn't treat me like I was at a lower level than them.
Disney are known for having a good internship programme so the internship was set out well. I had a handover week my first week with the girl I was taking over which settled me into the job. I also had a welcome day a few weeks in after more interns had started.
The company didn't really invest in any personal training. The training I had for my job was done in my handover week with the girl who I was taking over. The handover was a good way to be eased into the job and it was the best way to know exactly what they job role entailed as I was learning it from someone who had been in that position for a year.
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
I would love to come back and work here however they don't offer graduate schemes so its not the easiest company to get back into once you have left.
The Culture
As there are so many interns at the company it was hard to socialise with everyone. I mainly socialised with the people on my floor. I think the company would benefit from having some form of social sec like at university who could organise events the interns could go to that would allow them to socialise more.
The cost varied but it was standard prices for London.
I didn't really go out around the area that I worked.
There are a few opportunities to get involved such as the voluntears programme which allowed people to get involved with various activities outside of work to raise money for charity.
