The Role
It was fantastic to work at Disney and get experience working for a large global company. There was plenty of opportunities to learn new skills through courses and the other workers appreciated you were an intern and were very friendly and were always willing to offer advice and support. Plus, meeting the characters every now and again certainly helped.
I felt I was treated as a member of the team and was given my own responsibilities, rather than having someone looking over my shoulder all the time.
I was able to approach anybody whenever I needed support or had a problem. My manager was always happy to offer me advice when needed.
In my role I found I was either too busy or had very little to do. Very rarely did I feel I had adequate work to keep me busy but without feeling overwhelmed.
I was given my own tasks to complete and a deadline and left to get on with it in my own time.
Most of the skills I learned were soft/personal skills rather than technical skills. These will still be useful in my final year and beyond. Skills such as time management, communication skills etc. I was also given the opportunity to attend courses in areas such as project management, excel and digital awareness.
The Company
Working in an IT setting it was a very laid back and friendly atmosphere.
It seemed very unorganised when arranging for a new intern.
There were opportunities to develop however you had to go out and look for them yourself.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Travel loan
It would be a fantastic company to work for in the future, however opportunities to advance your career seem small as many employees stay for a very long time.
The Culture
Interns all get along well, there are also opportunities such as nights out, pub quizzes and sports teams to get to know others.
Its central London, so it's very expensive.
Again it's central London so there is a lot to do wherever you are, but again its rather expensive....unless you find the right places.
It's London so you do not have to look far for an event or for extra activities to get involved with.
