About You
The Discovery EY programme was thoroughly enjoyable. I gained a real understanding of the Audit and Tax service lines provided by EY, met like minded people and built a network of current employees working in areas i'd be interested in joining.
I felt a lot of effort was put into planning and delivering this programme, from the beginning regular email updates were sent to ensure everyone knew exactly what was going to happen on the 2 day programme. During the 2 days, all the staff members were really friendly and always happy to answer questions.
Throughout all the activities there was always someone to hand to provide support and answer any questions we had. When we were put into a group, each group was assigned an employee to help us through the activity
The course definitely helped me understand the way EY works and their different service lines. I felt the programme also helped a lot with team working skills and although I was somewhat aware of the behavioural attributes I have, an activity we had to do there reinforced this and helped me apply them constructively in a team enviornment
The Company
Very well structured, as mentioned before I felt the insight had been thoroughly planned with a variety of different activities and opportunities to find out specific things that we wanted to know. We were constantly busy and there was never a point in the day that I was bored. I thought though there wasn't enough time to finish the board games once we had got round figuring how to play them.
Everyone was extremely friendly and easy to talk to. There was no assessing during the 2 days so all the students acted genuinely and not trying to compete against each other which I thought was really good and made the days a lot more enjoyable
It was just an insight so not that much but there was a team activity that included peer development feedback which I did think was helpful
the insight was more about learning the different roles available, being able to talk to current employees either on the different student schemes or in full time positions did give some indication to what it would be like to work at EY however there wasn't much 'hands on'. There's not much I think they could've done about this in the short amount of time we had there and I feel that is more relevant during the internship in the summer
The two days were very much focussed on the fact that EY had a very friendly culture and everyone described the working environment was good. However I have not experienced anything like this at the other competing firms and hence cannot judge how EY compares
Definitely very valuable. Next steps were very clearly laid out and the general feeling amongst us students was that pretty much everyone want to pursue this further and apply for the summer internship. Everyone I spoke to enjoyed the two days and found it very informative
Everything Else
I was reimbursed expenses
At every break there were a handful of employees around that were all really approachable to ask questions and learn about their experiences. There were a range of employees on the different schemes EY offer and also some higher up employees. In group work we were always assigned a 'facilitator' to help us through the activity and they were always really helpful and we had the opportunity to ask them anything about their experiences
We had a dinner on the first day which was thoroughly enjoyable, a few employees also joined us at this dinner and it was nice to chat to them about their careers but also about their other interests. The night was filled with good food and good conversation
Yes a few of the employees we spoke to were part of EY sports clubs and we found out that there were lots of other societies and things you could get involved with outside of work
Definitely, the programme exceeded all expectations. I finished the two days not only having really enjoyed myself but also having gained indispensable knowledge about EY as a firm and the services they provide which is going to help me make well informed decisions about what I want to do in the future.
