The Role
It varied depending on what I was doing. When I was doing calculations or was more involved with clients it was a lot more interesting than the administration.
They all made me feel really welcome.
They were very helpful and approachable.
It varied, but if I didn't have anything to do I could usually ask around and find something that someone wanted me to do.
I was trusted to do calculations and other jobs, but was always well supervised.
I had never worked in an office before, so the office skills alone are incredibly useful. I learnt so much about the actuarial profession and the company as a whole.
The Company
Everyone was very serious about their work, but still had time for a joke and a chat.
There were no problems.
Everything was explained to me on a one-to-one basis and there was always somebody around who I could ask a question if I needed to.
Subsidised Canteen
I have accepted an offer to work with them after I graduate.
The Culture
I was the only intern in my department so didn't really see any other students, but it was good among those working in the department.
I was commuting from home about 45 minutes away by train, so didn't experience much of the cost. I had a lunch allowance in the canteen so didn't even need to pay for my lunch!
Again, I was commuting from home about 45 minutes away by train and didn't experience much of the nightlife, but it sounded very good.
I had a CSR day helping a local charity during my placement and heard about lots of things I could get involvd with if I worked for them as a graduate.
