About You
Very well organised week. I have enjoyed learning far more than I thought I would when I first started. Based in Technology within Commodities and have enjoyed working in the team and observing how the team works within the bank.
I was respected by everyone that I met throughout the week, Seniors and Graduates alike. I was spoken to with respect from everyone I dealt with, and everyone was there to help me.
I was in a team of 8 people, and I had no trouble approaching any of them for questions I had or help I needed. One member of my team in particular taught me an immense amount of detail about both Technology, and Sales & Trading itself.
Very extensively. I did not expect to learn as much as I have. I didn't have much of an idea about how Technology works within a bank, but I've received a lot of information to help me with my understanding. It has set me up well for when I am looking for work, as I will know what skills I will need to succeed.
The Company
We had an introduction on the first day with a couple of very good speakers, followed by a networking event and then over to our business areas. We spent most of our days in the business areas and were given another evening networking event one night.
Obvious that everyone working at Citi is very driven. There was no slacking around, but there was still a sense of friendliness, which is exactly what you need in a workplace.
My team set me the task of producing a 10-page report on the workings of an IB, technology within an IB and the team I was working on. They taught me one-by-one their insights, and I was provided with access to other teams as well. I was always provided with enough information to complete my project.
I was able to spend all my days on the trading floor, which was great to experience. I saw what it was like to work within my department, as well as others. It was obvious that working at Citi would be a very fast-paced and friendly environment.
Obviously a very well-driven company. I could see what both sides were like - the relaxed, and then the few slightly erratic traders! Good experience to see the overall atmosphere.
It really helped me realise that Technology was definitely for me, and that working within an Investment Bank would be exactly the pace I was looking for.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed my travel expenses, and also provided with a good amount of money to pay for breakfast and lunch.
2 networking events and very easy to get in touch with employees from other areas/departments. I managed to speak to a couple graduates from Technology who showed me their Market areas as well, and therefore learnt a lot more this way.
Very good mid-week networking event. Social opportunities throughout the week were hard to do as quite a few (especially in IBD) would have to stay later than everyone else, but mid-week was very fun. All of the other interns were also very friendly and were up for having breakfast and lunch together.
2 people on my team told me about some activities Citi has set up for employees to get involved in. Tech graduates told me about a couple of their experiences too.
Definitely. If you want to find out if banking is for you, and have no idea what the typical week of a Citi employee is, this is perfect. Was a really good opportunity to meet friends, network, learn a lot, and spend 5 days well.
