About You
Before having the opportunity of being given an insight into J.P Morgan, I wasn't quite sure of what I wanted to do once finished with my studies. The insight allowed me to ask questions to professionals in the job and get the best advice on how I could progress forward in my career. During the robocode, I enjoyed working together with my team members with the supervision of an experienced mentor who often gave a different perspective into the possible ways we could optimise our code and strategy. Furthermore, i enjoyed work-shadowing, seeing experts at work and having an insight into how they resolved problems and worked in teams.
I felt as though I was treated and valued just like other employees. My questions were always answered and I was always treated with respect. In addition I felt as though every contributions that I made had been taken into consideration and valued.
I was given all the support and guidance needed, especially during the robocode event, where mentors tried to offer hints and tips on how I could develop an idea and put it into practice. Also, during the agile challenge game, I felt as though the mentors where always there to give guidance and support by offering us the chance to improve at every round by explaining to us the techniques that we should be using. During the focus groups, I was able to ask questions to professionals and get guidance answers into what to do and look into if interested in taking a certain type of career.
I was able to learn both invaluable and team skills that have helped with my course studies. How to successfully use your team strengths, understanding what the real meaning of agile working and how to make excellent presentations are just some of the skills that I learned during the insight and have helped me with all the projects in my degree.
The Company
I felt as though the insight had been very well structured as from the first day we knew what we had to do and when we to do something. I believe that having a social event at the end of day 1 of work helped us to break the ice and get to know everyone that was involved within the insight as well as our mentors. This was very well followed by group work and work-shadowing with your mentor as you already knew each other from the event before.
During the insight the atmosphere was very good, very professional and finally very friendly. This meant that I didn't feel stressed at all and that I could be myself and express my opinions.
I was given a lot of training into how to deliver a successful pitch and how I to successfully undertake the full interview process.
I believe that insight helped me to understand what it would be like to have a full role as during focus groups I was able to ask questions and understand the way the firm worked. Furthermore , when work-shadowing the mentors I was able to fully see how a typical day of work could be like.
The insight helped me to understand the company culture as I was firstly explained about the policies and regulations within the firm and I was then showed how they were put into practice while work-shadowing employees.
The content of the day was pivotal in making me understand and guide me towards where I think I would like to be at when finished with my degree. The different talks by people working within the different sectors of the company helped me to understand the type of job they did and whether I believed that I could enjoy it or not.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed expenses
There were plenty of opportunities for networking and meeting other people from the firm. At the social event we were able to meet people from different part of the firm. We were also able to meet people through the focus events, which gave me an insight into the possible ways you can get into J.P Morgan and what opportunities you should be looking out for.
The social events were very non competitive, fun and relaxing. This meant that I was able to make new connections in a friendly and non-competitive environment.
Yes, including the different societies that exist.
I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
