About You
I really enjoyed the week, it was extremely informative, and we were able to cut through a lot of the myths around banking and find out what the varied day to day roles of various different department members was like.
We were felt to feel valued in that all the food was provided, and some students were even flown in from other countries. This showcases UBS's commitment to getting the best talent.
There was an adequate amount of support, not that it was necessary in my opinion, as we are all adults.
The information i received will help me in choosing my career enormously, in that i now have a clear opinion of where i want to apply for an internship in an investment bank. In terms of aiding with my degree, i would say that it has not helped in any way, however i wouldn't have expected it to.
The Company
There was a very clear structure which was followed religiously. There was always something for us to do, and a handy base room where the interns could chat and receive refreshments during the breaks in between activities.
A fantastic atmosphere was held throughout the week. It was fantastic to meet likeminded ambitious people with similar goals to myself. The UBS staff were all extremely friendly, and no question was too naïve or stupid, which was good.
There was a presentation exercise, which will have helped me develop my public speaking skills further. There was also a strong emphasis on the importance of networking in the industry, which will undoubtedly be helpful in the future.
Very much so, in depth talks were given on most major areas of the bank, describing the culture of the firm, and their individual respective roles.
There was a lot of discussion of the company's values and culture, so i would say very much so.
Invaluable information has been learnt on my future career path.
Everything Else
This is one of the areas that frustrated me. As although i live in south west London, i live just inside the M25, and so had to travel in every day. UBS do not offer expenses for people living inside the M25, which i believe to be unfair, when they are willing to pay for very expensive flights for others to come in and put them up in a hotel. I am a student and my disposable income is very low, so spending £70 on travel for the week was definitely not what my bank balance needed!
Yes there were frequent networking opportunities.
They were good, with good food and drink provided throughout.
Yes, there were presentations on volunteering projects, and several of the employees talked about their social lives outside the office also.
Yes definitely, it is perfect for someone unsure or unclear of the structure of an investment bank.
