The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement and felt that the 6week rota was an excellent amount of time for me to experience the different work that the tax department were involved in.
All my colleagues were extremely helpful.
I had a mentor who i met with every week and worked with in my first two weeks, and I also had a supervisor of whom I was able to ask for help if required and whom I met with fornightly.
I felt that I was busy on a daily basis, but not to the extent that I was pressured or overworked.
I was allowed to take on tasks that a trainee would be involved in and was left to my own devices however if I needed help then I knew I was able to ask someone.
I believe I have developed my people skills and also IT skills from my placement and will be able to use these in my degree and beyond.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was very pleasant, and as an open plan office - everyone was able to talk to one another and there was a great sense of friendship.
The placement was very well organised and my time was split equally which was very beneficial.
The company invested alot of time and work in my own personal training and development, they did not just give me menial tasks to occupy my time with, I was given training and development in all my different areas.
Subsidised Canteen
I was offered the Graduate program through my placement and was successful in this so I have the prospect of Graduate employment with KPMG dependent on a 2:1 degree.
The Culture
Yes there were other students on placement in different departments and we were all introduced so as to feel that we weren't alone.
I worked in Glasgow, which is where I live, therefore I am used to the cost of living and socialising there, as I still live at home with my parents.
Nightlife in Glasgow is extremely varied and therefore covers alot of different tastes in music.
There were a few nights out organised during my placement and also a corporate social responsibility day for all the students on placement.
