About You
It was pleasant insightful two days. It had a variety of tasks to keep it engaging. All the staff were open and friendly about EY and their department.
I felt very valued since they asked the group for our feed back and really wanted to know what we enjoyed and what we thought needed to be approved. They do really like to here everyone opinions.
We had a lot of advice given to us by staff which I have taken on board and be using in future. For example what they look for applicants in CV . Also they filled us in on the qualifications like ICAS we would be taking if we enter a career in the one of the big 4 financial services. As I am someone with learning difficulties my only criticism would be they didn't have green paper ready for me first thing however this was amended very quickly.
I don't think my skills were developed we did a strengthens workshop which went over stuff I knew about. I think it would of helped if they did about how to be successful applicant especially in an assessment centre scenario .However I learnt a lot more on about the different sub service lines of Tax and Assurance which helped me inform my decision about which department I would like to go in for summer internship. I think it would helped the group of people I was with if we learnt more about the other two services Advisory and Corporate Finance.
The Company
The structure was clear format and divide into appropriate sections. However most of the time we were behind so didn't get all questions answered during some sessions.
The general atmosphere was friendly and exciting. It is a people focused place so a huge emphasis on making it an enjoyable place to work and visit. Very supportive staff who talked us about their time at EY. The group of people I was with were very liked minded and we clicked very quickly many I will keep in contact for years to come.
During one of the task we had a feedback session from our peers all though my feedback was pretty much the same person to person it helped me know if I would do a similar task what to keep in mind. The company invested a lot into us since they have given us a session about next steps about placements and to start looking at what exams we be exempted from in professional qualifications e.g. ICAS.
They brought people from all parts of the business to give us an insight what happens in their day to day in their department. They were open about hours, when their busy season is, day to day tasks, parts of the job they were not expecting.
Since I had been to a previous EY event I understand the culture however this just set it in stone it is relaxed and focus on people don't just see us as a number. The culture of EY is brilliant and is a main pull to me pursuing a career there.
I already had a rough idea what area I wanted to go into this helped me definite decide I what to go to tax mainly international tax department. So now I'm applying for internships in this area while before I would of done any internship in tax
Everything Else
They paid for my travel expenses. EY give us breakfast and lunch both days and dinner at Gaucho . Also if you lived two hours away they paid for your accommodation at the London Bridge hotel. They went above and beyond what I was expecting.
At the dinner we had staff from EY there so we could network.
I would say it would of been better if there had been a session where people came and we could of go up to them since at the dinner it was the luck of the draw which staff you had at the table. The two staff I had were assurance so didn't benefit as much as I could of.
Yes employees were telling us about the social life like the EY women's football team and many emphasised to us about the need for a good work/leisure balance.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend who was interested in this area for a career however I would tell them to research before hand since its very detailed on tax and assurance so you need to be interested in these two to get any benefits out of insight.
